Part of the emerging Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, the SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is one of the largest current construction projects in the history of the City of Buffalo. When construction is complete, this cutting-edge academic and research facility located near Kaleida Health, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute, will deliver the region’s first comprehensive academic medical center.

Contained within this eight-story, 628,000 square foot facility is state-of-the-art laboratory space, and an expanded patient care simulation center for clinical, surgical and robotic surgery training. This facility will offer skyway bridge connection to adjacent hospitals and medical centers, and a built-in NFTA-Metro rail station for convenient public access.

Environmental and Energy Management controls are built upon the StruxureWare Building Operations (SBO) system by Schneider Electric, delivering to University officials one of the most comprehensive and efficient systems available. Insight from the reporting and tracking capabilities of SBO assures the right comfort level for students, faculty and patients alike, while ensuring all sensitive research laboratories maintain the stringent environmental conditions that medical and biomedical research demands.

Accessible from web-based portals, SBO will provide the greatest degree of control of environmental space building engineers will experience, with energy consumption tracking and trending providing the detail needed to ensure this facility remains environmentally friendly.

When construction is completed and the facility opens in 2017, this critical component to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Corridor is expected to deliver a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment supporting world-class medical education, research and patient care through innovation and collaboration with the world’s best research and treatment partners.
